Innovation from outdoor passion

The history of Berghaus began in a small workshop in the North East of England in 1966. Mountaineers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison were frustrated by the lack of decent outdoor equipment, and just a few years later their first Berghaus backpacks came onto the market. A passion for innovation that led to the world's first rucksack with an integrated carrying frame in 1972. With the Cyclops and as one of the European pioneers of Gore-Tex, Berghaus succeeded in making a name for itself as a manufacturer of clothing and equipment for outdoor activities. Since 1994, the globally recognized brand has also been using its know-how to manufacture hiking boots and gaiters. Because life takes place outside.

Technologies for any conditions

Berghaus focuses on the further development of tried and tested products such as Gore-Tex, Primaloft or Polartec, but also on the development of its own technologies in order to enjoy nature to the fullest. Thanks to the specially created MtnHaus development team, many groundbreaking products, such as the award-winning Vapour Storm jacket, have already been created. The innovative waterproof vents are also currently used in women's and men's jackets, such as the Berghaus Changtse.

Berghaus uses synthetic insulating materials in selected products, but down remains the preferred choice of many athletes and adventurers thanks to its excellent insulating properties. In order to keep you comfortably warm even in adverse conditions, Berghaus gives the Hydrodown filling an additional treatment with NikWax. This offers extra protection against wet down. Together with the resistant Pertex Quantum material for optimum wind protection and the Reflect technology, which reflects even more body heat back, this promises absolutely chill-free excursions.

For those days you wouldn‘t wish on a dog, Berghaus offers the 2.5-layer Hydroshell Elite material. Incredibly breathable and waterproof, it makes pants and jackets perfect companions in rough times. If space is tight and the backpack heavy, there are fabrics from a combination of Gore-Tex and Paclite technology: compressible, but still permanently water-repellent and extremely breathable.

Whether short sleeve or long sleeve shirts, baselayers or hoodies, the Polartec Power Grid material keeps you evenly tempered, dries quickly and is comfortable on the skin. And to make you feel fresh and comfortable in every situation, Berghaus has developed the odour-neutralising Argentium material technology.

MADEKIND, bluesign, Coloukind and RDS - for a cleaner, more ethical world

Berghaus uses recycled materials in more and more products, but only those that consist of more than 50% recycled material receive the MADEKIND label. Berghaus is also proud to be the first UK brand to join the industry-leading bluesign initiative to ensure that its products are safe and free of harmful substances for consumers and the environment. The award-winning dyeing technology Coloukind additionally enables a more environmentally friendly fabric that does not fade and undergoes fewer dyeing phases than traditional fabrics, resulting in 89% water savings, 63% less chemical use and 60% less CO2 emissions. It goes without saying that 100% of all Berghaus down is certified with the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), a voluntary, independent, global animal welfare standard that ensures that ducks and geese are protected from inhumane practices such as live plucking and forced feeding. So that you can face the forces of nature with a clear conscience.
