From Pioneer to World Champion - Mountain Biking at the Highest Level
In the early 90s, the up-and-coming mountain bike market demanded innovative and reliable solutions for the ever-increasing demands of mountain bikers. Nuke Proof Industries founder John Muenzenmeyer was a pioneer in the use of exotic materials such as titanium and carbon fiber. Especially the carbon/aluminum hubs spread rapidly and soon athletes like James Bethea were seen riding around and winning races with carbon handlebars, titanium frames and other innovative brand components.
When the 90s bike boom in the USA was over, Northern Ireland downhill rider and Nuke Proof Industries fan Michael Cowan brought the brand to Belfast. In 2007, the first titanium springs and handlebars were launched under the new name Nukeproof. An early dream of the team of experienced mountain bike racers was a longer, more powerful bike for the high demands of the famous Megavalanche Downhill race in L'Alpe d'Huez. The legendary Nukeproof MEGA emerged from the 3-year development process.
Further partnerships, among others with Downhill Masters World Champion Nigel Page, and the founding of an own team for the UCI Downhill World Cup, allowed Nukeproof to test their bikes and components at the highest level. Especially the cooperation with two-time Enduro World Series winner Sam Hill has shaped the development of Nukeproof like no other.
