Stages Cycling: A Success Story

Stages Cycling was founded in 2012 and is now the top dog in the power meter and indoor cycling market. The recipe for Stages' success is a motivated and qualified team: At the company from Boulder, Colorado, executives, product designers and industry experts came together. The common denominator: a passion for cycling and a shared goal of developing products that make a difference. We'd say Stages Cycling succeeded! Stages Powermeter and Stages Indoor Bikes are among the best you can buy.

Impressive numbers prove the success of Stages: Stages Cycling products are currently sold in more than 55 countries and in over 7000 bike stores. In professional cycling, Stages athletes have collected eight Grand Tours and 18 World Championships and Olympic medals. Most importantly, Stages Cycling products enable you to train more efficiently. The bottom line for you is: More power, more endurance and more fun cycling!

Stages Cycling Powermeter: Super Light and Extremely Precise

Stages has earned an excellent reputation with its powermeter models. They are high quality, accurate and innovative. Stages Cycling was the first company to introduce dual ANT+ and Bluetooth communication, active temperature compensation and left crank arm power measurement. All of this results in extremely accurate power measurement. The tested accuracy of Stages powermeters is +/- 1.5 percent, which is an excellent value. With just 20 grams, by the way, Stages Powermeter are real lightweights.

Why use a Stages Powermeter at all?

Still not sure if you need a power meter? Here we have summarized a few advantages of power measurement at the crank for you:

  • Power meters allow you to determine your power output completely objectively, regardless of your exhaustion or external factors such as headwinds.
  • Stages powermeters help you to make your training extremely efficient.
  • A powermeter gives you information about your actual training status - no more speculation and approximations!
  • A Stages powermeter weighs so little that you won't feel the difference (about 20 grams).
  • If you measure on both crank arms, you can optimize your pedaling motion.

How Does a Stages Cycling Powermeter Work?

The principle of operation of a Stages Powermeter is simple. Strain gauges are attached to the crank arm. These can detect the smallest movements in the material of the crank and use them to determine the force acting on the crank. In reality, it is much more complicated. Temperature fluctuations contribute to many powermeters spitting out inaccurate values. Stages Cycling has therefore developed software that actively compensates for such fluctuations. This allows Stages powermeters to achieve exceptionally accurate readings.

When is a Bilateral Stages Cycling Powermeter System Useful?

Let's start with the advantage of one-sided measurement: It is cheaper. Logically, you only need a power meter module. With the one-sided measurement - simply put - the force of one leg is measured and doubled. It is much more accurate to measure the strength of both legs separately. Often, individual imbalances cause one leg to perform differently than the other. If you mount a Stages powermeter on each crank arm and measure on both sides, you can detect these imbalances. This will give you a more accurate measurement. Most importantly, it helps you optimize your "round kick" and thus increase your efficiency. Stages Cycling has - suitable for every budget - both single-sided and double-sided systems in the offer.

For Which Crank Manufacturers Does Stages Cycling Offer Powermeters?

Of course, you get Stages Powermeter for the main crank manufacturers Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo. Stages Cycling has greatly expanded its range in recent years, so that today you also get Stages Powermeter for many other cranks: FSA, Cannondale, Race Face, Easton and Specialized - Stages Powermeter are compatible with all these cranks.

The Stages Cycling Smart Bike SB20: Indoor-Bike-Training Par Excellence

In 2015, Stages introduced a second product group: Stages Indoor Bikes. This quickly earned the company an excellent reputation. Today, countless fitness centers are equipped with professional indoor bikes from the US company. For home use, the SB20 Smart Bike is the ultimate training tool for your Stages Cycling workout.

The Stages SB20 Smart Bike is the perfect workout station for your home. When it's storming and raining outside, you can do extremely realistic workouts on it in your living room at home. Thanks to Bluetooth and ANT+, the indoor bike can be connected to all popular indoor cycling apps. This way, you'll not only train efficiently - your workout will be incredibly entertaining!

The Stages SB20 is a professional training device for private use. It is extremely precise and can be perfectly adjusted to your body measurements. With a few simple steps you can adjust it exactly like your outdoor bike. Stack, reach, saddle height and saddle position are adjusted to the millimeter in just a few seconds. For a realistic riding experience, the indoor bike is equipped with racing handlebars and brake levers. It is compatible with time trial attachments. In addition to the in-house "Stages Dash" GPS bike computer, other devices can be paired. You can train with Stages' own Cycling app or connect to online apps like Zwift, Trainer Road, Sufferfest or Full Gaz.

Thanks to a 23-kilogram flywheel, the Stages SB20 gives you an unimaginably realistic riding experience and simulates steep inclines completely unimpressed. With a total weight of 62.5 kilograms, it is absolutely stable. The Stages floor mat is a useful accessory. It is non-slip and reduces the noise development of the device, which is already exceptionally quiet.

In order to record the subjective strain on your body in addition to the objective performance measurement, you can couple the indoor trainer with a Stages Pulse heart rate sensor. Your heart rate gives you information about the degree of your exhaustion or indicates a possible infection.  The combination of power meter and heart rate belt is the icing on the cake for your training!
