Intelligent detail solutions and Swiss precision – from high-precision machining to perfect assembly – have made the 240 model series of DT Swiss what it is today: a legend! And with the patented Ratchet EXP freewheel technology, its history is now continued.
Pure Performance. So that the rider can concentrate exclusively on the essentials – the cycling –, also the Classic version for J-bend spokes features the proven Ratchet freewheel system. This not only ensures direct power transmission without losses, but is also characterized by absolute reliability.
100% Swiss Made. Even when it comes to the construction of extremely lightweight wheels, the handmade DT Swiss 240 aluminum hubs are the first choice. In addition to the low weight, their advantages include stainless ball bearings with a special coating for silky smooth running and minimal resistance, as well as an excellent sealing system that prevents the penetration of water and dirt.
DT Swiss believes in engineering and strives for perfection in the development of new products. The guiding principle is to push the technological boundaries further and further.
Simpler | The no-tool concept and the revised shape of the end caps with an integrated nut provide in interaction not only for easier maintenance and disassembly, but also simplify the conversion to all common axle and freewheel body standards.
More precise | Whereas previous freewheel concepts required two conical springs to ensure the correct angle between the two toothed pulleys, the Ratchet EXP system uses a fixed connection between the inner ratchet and the hub housing to ensure correct alignment. The use of a single cylindrical spring not only allows faster and more complete meshing, but also offers higher reliability.
Lighter | However, the integration of the ratchet and the threaded ring not only increases the service life of the hub. The use of a single spring also reduces the number of components and thus the weight of the entire component.
More reliable | Ratchet System hubs are unique in that all the teeth of the two ratchets engage simultaneously every time. Whereas with pawl hubs the engagement area is quite small, with the Ratchet System the entire face surfaces engage with each other. This ensures a much lower, point load and legendary reliability.
Stiffer | The distance between the bearings, which is limited by the size of the freewheel system, determines to a large extent the overall stiffness of the hub. By integrating the bearings into the threaded ring on the drivetrain side, it was possible to maximize the bearing spacing and thus increase the hub stiffness by 15 %.
