The Extralite HyperBoost comes with a body made of 7075 aluminum and is equipped with corrosion resistant stainless bearings.
The HyperBoost comes with an external bearing preload system. The precise bearing setting ensures a low friction and no-play at the rim. The hub is equipped with drillngs for straight pull spokes - straight pull spokes increase the wheel stiffness under load and reduce lateral flex while increasing the disc braking torque transmission.
It took Extralite more than a year of continuous testing to develop and fine-tune the fully alloy engagement freewheel mechanism. It is a true racing assembly sensibly stronger and lighter than conventional pawl systems, with the minor trade-off that coasting is a bit noisier. It offers a much wider teeth engagement surface upon to spread the transmission torque better. This allows the hub to manage extremely high torque values while the 60 teeth ensure a precise engagement and minimum frictional resistance.
Wear and tear of the freewheel parts is slightly higher than conventional pawl systems, however the wearable parts can be easily replaced. A specifically designed polyurethane seal enhances the protection of freewheel mechanism. The "Twin-Life" hub-shell features a additional row of splines for the floating ring. The second row allows to rebuild the hub back to new conditions in case it get badly worn out by a neglected maintenance.
