Climbing and mountaineering are more popular than ever before. For many people around the world today, climbing is far more than just a sport, it is a way of life. Cliffhanger introduces the different varieties of climbing - from bouldering to trad climbing to alpinism - and explains what equipment and techniques are needed.
Climbing isn't just a hobby or a pastime, it's also a reason to travel the world. Journalist and co-editor Julie Ellison takes you to exciting climbing paradises and profiles some of today's most important climbers, such as ice climber Ines Papert and the Raboutou family, from which four of the world's strongest climbers hail. The book Cliffhanger not only presents special places, but also accompanies the people on the wall who make this sport so fascinating. Whether you're an experienced climber or a beginner, your hands will start to sweat and your heart to race just flipping through this book.
Julie Ellison is an avid climber and works as a freelance writer, photographer, and filmmaker. For four years, Ellison lived in a campervan named Betsy with her pit bull Lizzie and crisscrossed the U.S., always looking for a new exciting story and the perfect place to climb. She was the first female editor-in-chief of Climbing magazine before founding the production company Never Not Collective with two female colleagues in 2016. For her documentary Pretty Strong (2020), Ellison follows 14 women on their adventurous climbs.
