The Rennstahl 991 Gravel comes with a longer rear triangle and a slightly flatter steering angle and is tuned for fast off-road passages. The bottom bracket, in turn, is not as high, which improves road holding at high speeds and brings the center of gravity down without bringing disadvantages off-road. In addition, hydraulic disc brakes provide optimal modulation and deceleration in any situation. Threaded eyelets for two bottle cages make the 991 Gravel fully suitable for long-distance touring. If you want to use the Gravel as a sporty touring bike, you can mount a rear rack or mudguards on the rear triangle, which finally mutates this bike into a lightweight and sporty all-rounder.
The extreme strength of the stainless steel alloy makes it possible to draw tubes with wall thicknesses thinner than ever before, wall thicknesses as thin as 0.38 mm! The special chemical composition of this steel alloy produces superior fatigue strength while reducing the susceptibility to embrittlement from overheating in the weld zone.
This tube set is only slightly heavier than 6061 aluminum, while still providing the typical strength, durability and handling characteristics of steel. At the same time, this alloy is absolutely corrosion resistant, so that painting is not necessary here. Falkenjagd therefore polishes their frames very elaborately and then applies the lettering using a sandblasting process (special mixture of quartz sand and glass beads). The result: no varnish, no stickers, purism in its entirety!
Due to the focus of this very tube set on absolute weight advantages, it is predestined in particular for bicycle frames that are designed for hard racing use. The performance of the steel frames is thus in no way inferior to the downright fragile carbon frames.
