Campagnolo Super Record EPS, the feather in the cap of Campagnolo® innovation thanks to the technologies, materials and expertise behind the design of this groupset, consolidates its benchmark role by moving up to a 12-speed.
Leading the way for 8, 9, 10, and 11 speeds and, more recently, 12 speeds, Campagnolo has always been a pioneer in innovation for racing bike transmission. The recently introduced Super Record and Record mechanical drivetrains marked not only a new era in the technology of the mechanical groupset, but also made the way for what was to become the electronic version of the Super Record 12-speed groupset. EPS technology was tested on the field by cyclists and before its launch on the market, it was subjected to the usual testing by the Campy Tech Lab in the most demanding lab in the world: the World Tour.
This very popular groupset is now available in a 12-speed option with its V4 version in Power Unit electronic components and interface. The groupset has been redesigned to adapt perfectly to the 12-speed technological frontier and to the 11-29 and 11-32 cassette combinations introduced in the mechanical version. Fast shifting, always precise and effortless for the cyclist, and a very gradual gear ratio are just some of the extraordinary characteristics of the EPS groupset.
The Campagnolo Super Record EPS 2x12-speed groupset with mechanical rim brakes consists of:
Interface & cable (for internal frame mounting), hubs and bottom bracket cups are not included. These can be ordered separately. Also the battery, which is needed for this group, is not included because it cannot be shipped by air freight. For deliveries to EU, Lichtenstein, Switzerland and Norway, the battery can be ordered separately.
Campagnolo EPS, Electronic Power Shift, is an evolved electronic drivetrainsystem that, through artificial intelligence (DTI, Digital Tech Intelligence), is capable of translating the actions that the cyclist performs on the levers into digital signals, process them and control the coordinated movement of the front and rear derailleur. The EPS system possesses electronics that are centralized and not located in the parts, digital intelligence that communicates with the components and continuously sends feedback, and controls them. Centralized electronics means more stability to the system and less risk of failure and breakdowns due to falls. If malfunctions encounter, the EPS system is capable of automatically detecting a whole range of them. The On Board Diagnostic shows with different colors in a RGB-LED where a malfunction is detected.
In the same way as the front derailleur, the rear one also exploits many developments achieved for its mechanical 12-gear predecessor. The same 45° trajectory angle corresponds to an improved change of position that electronically improves chain engagement specific for each sprocket. Better power transmission and less wear and tear of consumer transmission components are just two of the advantages. Compatible with the two 11-29 and 11-32 cassettes, the two pulley wheels have 12-tooth design and the 72.5 mm derailleur cage ensures perfect performance. The slimmer, sturdier structure of the resistant derailleur cage gives more space between the derailleur and the spokes, making it easier to adjust. Moving the chain onto 12 sprockets in the cassette calls for greater precision, given the increased number of chainrings in the same space.
The shape of the updated brake lever with its new 12-speed design is the result of painstaking studies carried out in the Campy Tech Lab to ensure that, together with positioning of the downshift lever, the cyclist has an intuitive, practical, comfortable "control center". The new Ergopower control can be adjusted to fit hands of different sizes.
Multishifting technology, namely the option to change several sprockets with in a single shift is now applied to all the 12-speed cassettes. Cyclists can use the MyCampy app to personalize the Super Record EPS groupset. The Ergopower control also offers the cyclist total control over how the transmission works thanks to the MODE button (found immediately behind the downshift lever on both right and left-hand controls). The MODE button lets the cyclist check battery charge, make accurate
In-depth study by the Campagnolo technical staff for development of the new shape of the cage on the 12-speed mechanical front derailleur is now also applied to the new electronic version, guaranteeing fluid, efficient, reliable shifting. Thanks to the inner semi-cage in aluminum and the single-piece outer semi-cage in carbon fiber, the Super Record EPS front derailleur delivers maximum stiffness and efficiency when shifting.
The Campagnolo Super Record 12-speed cassette features thinner sprockets, tighter spaces and space-saving dimensions that are the same as those of the 11-speed cassette, meeting everyone’s needs with just two sprocket sets (11-29 and 11-32 teeth). The addition of the 12th sprocket allows a linear upshift or downshift by a single tooth, up to the seventh gear, allowing the cyclist to find the perfect ratio for any situation.
In addition, the closer sprockets ensure faster, quieter and more precise shifting thanks to the special tooth design and surface treatment which guarantees a longer lifetime.
The Campagnolo Super Record chain also had to be redesigned from scratch to work with all the other 12-speed transmission components. Therefore, the first and most important objective was reducing its overall dimensions. Its width measures just 5.15 mm, thanks to the new pins which are perfectly aligned with the links’ outer surfaces.
The second objective was safeguarding its performance. This was achieved thanks to the Ultra Link system that makes the chain safe and durable, and a special treatment that guarantees extreme smoothness and precision shifting.
Maximum performance, steep slopes and high speeds are manageable and attainable only when armed with total safety and confidence in powerful, modulable braking.
The Campagnolo Super Record Dual Pivot brake calipers ensure the shortest braking distance and continuous total control of the braking power transmitted thanks to the Super Record exclusive shifting system and Campagnolo's proven experience in brake pad compounds.
Campagnolo developed the Dual Pivot fulcrum system because Super Record users demand exceptional braking performance. The titanium screws also enable you to reach a level of weight and aesthetic impact on par with Super Record standards.
Notes:
Campagnolo Super Record EPS groupset is only suited for frames, that are designed for inner cable routing.
If you need further information about the single parts of the groupsets check the articles in the referring categories.
The Campagnolo EPS electronic drivetrain complies with IP67 international standards. This means that the system is able to protect its electronic components from dust and liquid infiltration.
