Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 CC DB with external gear mech in the version with CC axle plate for quick releases and standard frames with vertical drop outs (see illustration) where the chain cannot be tightened. The hub features a special 4-hole brake disc mount for the use with disc brakes. Delivery includes chain tensioner, long torque arm, Twist shifter and shifting cables.
With the external gear mech the shifter cables run directly from the twist shifter to the cable box. A separate
cable stop is not necessary. For quick and easy removal of the rear wheel, the cable box can be removed from the external
transfer box. All disc brake versions (DB) of the Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 are equipped with the external gear mech. The hole pattern in the axle plate allows the adjustment of the gear mech in steps of 30°. Therefore, an optimum cable routing can be achieved for nearly all frame types.
The Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 has been developed for both pros and performance oriented hobby cyclists who can appreciate it because of its reliability, perfect single gear ratios, wide range of gears, low maintenance and easy operation; its weight and efficiency are ideal even for pro racing.
The sealed gearbox ensures reliability and durability even under the toughest conditions. The even increments of 13.6% from gear to gear make it possible to always ride at the performance peak. The overall range of the 14 gears makes sure that you have the right gear in every situation. Pure fun is guaranteed. Through the choice of chainring and sprocket in use, the Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 can be tuned for the specific riding purpose. The Speedhub comes standard with a 16 teeth sprocket. 13, 15 and 17 teeth sprockets are available as alternatives.
The Speedhub 500/14 is operated by a twist shifter which shifts simply by pulling separate cables up or down. The indexing of the shifting lies not in the shifter as with common designs, but inside the hub. There is no wear on the indexing system nor need to adjust it.
Note: Do not use a chainring/cog ratio of less than 2.35. The smallest permittable chainring/cog ratios are: 40/17, 38/16, 36/15 and 32/13. These are the equivalent to a 22/34 combination on a conventional drivetrain. There is no limit whatsoever for higher ratios which means that you can mount bigger chainrings for extreme downhill racing.
The Speedhub DB hubs include a cap with disc mount. It is on this side that the external gear mech is also to be found. Normal 6-bolt brake discs are not mountable, a special 4-bolt disc with only four securing holes for bolts M8x0.75 must be fitted due to the large diameter of the hub seal. Rohloff offers a range of discs from 160mm to 203mm for nearly every type of disc brake currently on the market.
Attention: For lacing the Speedhubs you need special DD (2.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 mm) spokes with an arc length of 2.9 mm. These are exclusively distributed by Rohloff.
