In terms of weight advantage, Scott became experts over the years, which benefits this downhill weapon. The Gambler Tuned carbon frame weighs just 2,650 grams with hardware. In addition, SCOTT has developed a new method to produce an ultra-light and stable suspension rocker, through which a stiffness was achieved that would never be possible with aluminum - and that at a weight of 160 g. The new suspension design allows for a super-light frame. By using the Evolap overlay technology and the new version of an improved shock mount on the down tube, the weight could be pushed down on this downhill frame.
SCOTT can do more than just design, development and weight. MIt the goal to lower the weight, the stiffness should also be improved. The processing of different materials and layer construction techniques ensured that Scott achieves a torsional stiffness in the Gambler Tuned HMX, which provides good responsiveness, but also the right level of lateral flex to master difficult sections confidently and comfortably
Although the SCOTT staff achieved the targeted weight, they did not compromise on strength. This is, after all, a downhill bike that needs to be able to handle changes. SCOTT tested the frame to a very high standard, above the usual norm in the industry. With the Gambler, they wanted to make sure that the frame could withstand the forces that a professional athlete would exert during the competition season.
The Gambler Tuned HMX frame allows for a change in wheel size without having to change other bike components. The length of the chainstays can also be changed, regardless of the wheel size. Short with 29", clear thing. Long with 27.5? Goes also. A 4-way chip allows not only a height adjustment of the bottom bracket to the wheel size, but more importantly, an optimization of the geometry / kinematics, depending on tracks, shock or driver.
The frame features intelligent frame protection in crucial places. Thanks to the wide rubber chainstay, seatstay and DT protectors, as well as the fork buffer and neatly routed cables, the new Gambler Tuned HMX produces hardly any noise.
SCOTT has decisively developed the already high-quality carbon fiber HMF, which is used in the bike industry. HMX is the fiber used by SCOTT and has over 20 percent more stiffness than an HMF fiber of the same weight class. This unique material allows SCOTT engineers to develop incredibly lightweight wheels with excellent riding characteristics. HMX carbon fibers are both stiffer and smaller in diameter compared to HMF carbon. As a result, an HMX frame can also be built from tubes with a thinner sidewall to achieve the same stiffness as an HMF frame. The end result is a frame of equivalent ride quality, but because of the reduction in material consumption, the HMX frame is at the same time 14 percent lighter compared to the nearly identical HMF model.
