In 2015 Shimano introduced its Deore XT M8000 series for mountain bikers. Now Shimano has expanded the Deore XT definition to cover mountain biking and trekking with its T8000 range. Although the two component groups look very different, much like the riders, they share advanced riding technology that it set to increase performance and enjoyment in a variety of mixed-terrain on-road and off-road trekking and touring conditions.

Gear shifts are handled by Rapidfire Plus shift levers with easy to see displays and multi release (rear), instant release and 2-Way release functions.

Instant Release allows for quicker shifts, as it instantly releases the cable when the trigger is activated.
Multi-Release allows shifting two gears at once in both directions (only 10s shifter).
The levers are also equipped with 2-Way Release for different riding styles or shifting (indexfinger or thumb) from various riding positions. The upper lever still performs the same function, but now it swings both ways. Pull it with your finger or push it with your thumb - you choose.
