Zayante – A beautiful marriage of lightness and versatility.
Home Grown. The Northern California coast and Santa Cruz Mountains are steeped in the history of road cycling. To honor them, Praxis Works has named its top-level crank after the fabled redwood-covered Zayante climb. It is manufactured exclusively in the in-house laboratory using proprietary hybrid "RTM+Filimant Winding" manufacturing methods, because not all carbon is the same.
Do Everything. Nowadays, bicycles not only have to ride on smooth roads, but also have to be able to convince on gravel and cobblestones. That is why the Zayante relies on modularity and so the crankset can also be quickly and easily converted from a 2-speed to a 1-speed drivetrain system thanks to the 3-Bolt Direct Mount interface. The technical basis for this is provided by the proven X-Ring chainrings with X-Spider in the optimized LevaTime II design, which allow even more biting, but by no means rough shifting.
The Carbon-S version of the Zayante crankset features a simplified LevaTime II chainring set with steel chainring bolts.
Technical details of the Praxis Zayante Carbon-S crankset
- material: carbon (crank arms), aluminum (chainrings, spider)
- chainrings: LevaTime II (LT2) X-Rings
- bolt circle diameter (BCD): 160 / 104 mm
- crankshaft: M30 (⌀ 28/30 mm, requires special Praxis Works bottom bracket)
- chainline: 44.5 mm (not suitable for Shimano GRX front derailleur)
- Q-factor: 147 mm
Cold Forged | Praxis Works uses a special cold forging process for all its chainrings, which allows more complex shaping for the tooth profile. Since so-called "One-Shot" process makes it possible to increase the amount of shifting aids on the chainring, which would hardly be possible with conventional CNC manufacturing processes. Over 1,000 tons of pressure create an extremely hard and tough surface that offers maximum durability. Individual tooth profiles, changing tooth angles, synchronized lanes and tactically placed shift ramps are the features that ensure smooth shifting.
LevaTime II | Design. Build. Ride. Repeat. Praxis Works has the proven LevaTime chainrings, which were the result of relentless testing and numerous optimizations, once again fundamentally revised to provide even faster and smoother shifting. To increase the number and type of switching functions, the LT2 X-Rings are 5 mm stronger and correspondingly stiffer. On this basis, new types of forged shift pins can also be used, which engage more quickly and improve the shifting speed accordingly. The whole is held together by the forged and also reinforced LT2 X-Spider.
