FLOAT X2 – The Benchmark of Gravity Performance

The most extensively tunable air spring shock FOX has to offer combines an ultra-soft ride feel, similar in characteristics to steel spring models, with damping characteristics optimized for Enduro and Downhill use. As a representative of the Factory series, the flagship FLOAT rear shock features the smooth and extremely durable Kashima coating on the shock body.

Technical details of the FOX FLOAT X2 rear shock

  • series: Factory
  • body: Aluminum (7000 series), with Kashima coating
  • adjustability via lever: 2 positions (Open, Firm)
  • Low Speed Compression (LSC): 16 clicks
  • High Speed Compression (HSC): 8 clicks
  • Low Speed Rebound (LSR): 16 clicks
  • High Speed Rebound (HSR): 8 clicks (with VVC)
  • max. air pressure: 300 psi (17.2 bar)

Designed to Win. Engineered to Last. Inside and outside, the FLOAT X2 shock is designed to withstand the increased demands of Gravity sports. The piston and damper unit have been redesigned to lower dynamic damper pressures and reduce stress on internal components in combination with a smoother, hard chrome-plated shaft. The Trunnion version also features a revised eyelet design, which significantly increases resistance and longevity in the face of the greater loads inherent in the construction. The list of updates that make the X2 shock stronger and more durable than ever before includes a robust housing made from 7000 series aluminum.

Precision Tuning for Precise Race Runs. With its 4-way adjustability, the FLOAT X2 air spring shock offers maximum precision tuning options. The compression and rebound damping for high and low speeds can be conveniently adjusted via external dials. In addition, the Variable Valve Control (VVC) enables a direct adjustment of the High Speed Rebound on the Trail, a process that would normally require to disassemble the whole shock. The result: optimum damping performance on race level in every situation.

Close the Performance Gap. The oversized air chamber of the FLOAT X2 rear shock satisfies the desire of ambitious Gravity riders for a linear and plush ride feel. The performance gap between steel spring and air spring shocks in the Downhill segment is further minimized by the MCU bottom-out bumper, which ensures progressivity at the end of the stroke, as well as by the general weight savings made possible by the air spring setup.

An overview of the optimizations:

  • improved durability thanks to shock housing made of 7000 series aluminum, scraper seal, hard chrome-plated damper shaft and more robust eyelet construction on Trunnion models
  • shock body with ribbed interior for more structural rigidity and less hysteresis
  • revised compression tuning and valve piston with optimized basic construction for increased and more sensitive damping performance
  • bearing housing with sealing package that virtually eliminates external air ingress
  • MCU bottom-out bumper to maintain end-stroke progressivity
  • Firm mode with independent circulation system (to maintain tuning for LSC and HSC)
  • Variable Valve Control (VVC) for simplified adjustment of the HSR
