In 1998, Jacob Csizmadia used sixteen 608 hybrid ceramic bearings when he broke the world record for 24-hour inline skating. This successful record attempt laid the foundation for what would become CeramicSpeed.
This year, as CeramicSpeed officially celebrate their 20th anniversary as a company, a lot has changed since Jacob first upgraded the bearings in his skates. What remains unchanged is the relentless desire to push the limits of performance through innovation and uncompromised product quality.
To celebrate this important milestone, CeramicSpeed created a limited run of 200 truly unique OSPW RS systems that represent the pinnacle of their product development.
With its modern look characterized by clear edges, the OSPW RS derailleur pulley system from CeramicSpeed fits seamlessly into the contemporary design trends of current bicycles and groupsets. However, the revised construction not only looks good, but also increases strength and durability thanks to the reinforced cage
On a functional level, the handmade OSPW system, consisting of a cage and an upper and lower pulley, remains true to itself. The combination of sophisticated technology and extremely low-friction hybrid bearings makes it possible to noticeably improve the overall efficiency of the drivetrain. In addition, the spring tension, which can be adjusted in 2 stages, enables an individual setup tailored to the riding conditions.
As the derailleur pulleys have the fastest rotating bearings on the entire bike, this upgrade is the most effective way to save energy and improve lap times. The combination of hollow titanium derailleur pulleys and coated CeramicSpeed hybrid bearings is not only incredibly light, but also extremely smooth-running. The innovative 3D printing technology not only reduces the system weight by up to 10 % compared to the standard configuration with aluminium derailleur pulleys, it also doubles the service life without sacrificing stable chain retention. The low weight also ensures lower rolling resistance, which reduces friction by 35 to 40 %.
To achieve the special finish of the
The secret of the unique coating formula is a metallic layer that increases the hardness of the underlying hardened stainless steel race by a further 75 %. The evenly applied layer, which is incredibly thin at 3 µm (0.003 mm), covers the entire surface of the bearing ring, both on the inside and outside. The result offers the ultimate gain in performance and durability. Combined with the incredibly smooth, friction-reduced ceramic balls, the result is a bearing that exhibits virtually no wear and is extremely resistant to corrosion.
