454 NSW – Road Race Redux
With the 454 NSW, ZIPP presents its ultimate wheelset for road racing. The wheels for disc brakes offer everything that performance-oriented cyclists demand: maximum aerodynamic efficiency and outstanding stability in all wind conditions. Not least this is due to the wave-shaped HyperFoil profile with its differentiated SawTooth rim depth of 53/58 mm and the HexFin ABLC dimple structure.
But also the decision to use the Hookless construction, which is an essential part of ZIPP's "Making You Faster" philosophy, helps to improve aerodynamics by ensuring a more seamless transition between tire and rim. In addition, the hookless design allows riding with lower air pressure, reducing both rolling resistance and vibration-related energy losses. A more efficient resin distribution in turn makes the carbon rims lighter and more resistant. The wheels are rounded off with the help of the ZR1 SL premium hubs, which are 30 grams lighter than the previous version and feature ceramic hybrid bearings, which also benefit the rolling behavior.

Total System Efficiency (TSE) | Based on the simple premise "efficiency = speed", the SRAM Group introduces TSE, a solution for maximum performance in the real world, a world of imperfect roads and ever-changing riding conditions. In cycling terms, efficiency means less effort in overcoming air resistance, gravity, rolling resistance and vibration losses. The result: more speed with less power. The factors that enable a correspondingly more efficient ride are wider (Tubeless) tires, lower air pressure, an optimized rim profile and a new type of rim laminate.
Tubeless Straight Side (TSS) | Hookless Tubeless or Tubeless Straight Side describes the design of the rims. Tubeless-compatible rims can be ridden without a tube, but a setup with a tube is also possible. Hookless or Straight Side describes the shape of the rim flange, which in this case is straight and designed without the classic hook. This design offers advantages in terms of greater impact resistance of carbon rim flanges.
ImPress Direct-to-Print | With the help of this technology, the graphics are printed directly onto the rim. In this way, the function of the dimples on the rim surface, which lies in the controlled dissipation of air turbulence, is retained. This is crucial for the stability and therefore also for the aerodynamic efficiency of the wheel.
Notes and recommendations:
- Tire pressure: ZIPP specifies a maximum air pressure of 5 bar (73 psi). Depending on the tire width, 5 bar / 73 psi (28 mm), 4.5 bar / 65 psi (30 to 34 mm) and 4.0 bar / 58 psi (35 mm) are recommended.
- Inner tube: It is possible to use an inner tube, but only in conjunction with a Hookless-compatible tire. The manufacturer recommends the Eagle F1 R Z29 Aero tires developed in cooperation with Goodyear, which are specially tailored to the 454 NSW rims. If a different tire is used, a 28 mm model is the best choice.
- Warranty: ZIPP offers an unlimited warranty on the 454 NSW wheels, which covers all structural damage. Wear and service parts such as spokes, bearings and freewheels are excluded from the warranty.
Scope of supply:
front wheel incl. rim tape (26 mm), brake rotor lock ring and removable end caps (12 mm)
