GRX RX717 – Featuring More Affordable Di2 Options
Gravel cycling is about adventure, not exclusivity. Whether exploring new horizons, touring off paved roads, or simply enjoying a weekend ride, everyone deserves reliable and high-performance equipment. True to this belief and in line with the motto "United in Gravel," Shimano has developed components that suit every rider and every budget. With the GRX RX717 series, even more Gravel athletes can now benefit from an electronic Di2 shifting system that combines lightning-fast response with durability.
Shimano GRX RD-RX717-SGS rear derailleur
Built Tough for Rugged Gravel Adventures. At the heart of the series is the completely cable-free RD-RX717 rear derailleur, which connects seamlessly with cassettes that feature a gradation of 10-51 teeth offering a correspondingly high range. Furthermore, the electronic GRX rear derailleur impresses with its shifting speed, which is maintained reliably even on rough gravel roads thanks to its sophisticated construction. This includes the slim yet stable Shadow ES design, which ensures excellent chain stabilization providing correspondingly greater safety. The automatic recovery function (Automatic Impact Recovery) also helps to keep chain retention by returning the Di2 rear derailleur to its original position in the event of an impact. At the same time, the force of the shock is absorbed – ideal for mastering any off-road adventure.
The wide link construction as well as the resistant "skid plate" made of aluminum are already familiar from other Shadow ES models, just like the well-protected and discreetly placed battery compartment, which is nevertheless easily accessible for an easy charging of the rechargeable battery (not included). The RD-RX717 rear derailleur uses the same battery as its sister model RD-RX827 and the Shadow ES rear derailleurs in the XTR, Deore XT and Deore series, making it easy to swap between different bikes. Like all electronic Di2 shifting systems, the RD-RX717 rear derailleur can be connected to Shimano's user-friendly E-Tube app. Once paired, this app can be used to adjust various shifting settings and to perform firmware updates.
Shadow ES | This construction is characterized by a low profile, which reduces the forward-facing surface of the rear derailleur. As a result, the rear derailleur features no protruding edges that could get caught on stones or roots.
