Alto d'Angliru is the most feared of the Vuelta's Queen Stages. Put bluntly, Angliru is brutal. The final 6km averages 13% with some passages at 24%. So difficult, in fact, that in his final season as pro, British rider David Millar got off his bike 1km from the finish and protested at the brutality of it all. “We are not animals and this is inhuman.”

The storied reputation of Mont Ventoux rises from the bible of road cycling just as the mountain itself rides 1912m from the plains of Provence. There are multiple roads leading to the summit, but none are easier than the other.
