The WaveCel technology in detail

WaveCel is a compressible cell structure on the inside of the helmet. It works like a crumple zone to protect the head from hard impacts. When an impact occurs, the material structure reacts in three phases to absorb the energy before it reaches the head.

A unique feature of this material, exclusive to Bontrager helmets, is that it absorbs rotational forces within the helmet so that they are transmitted to the skull at a much lower rate or not at all. Traditional helmets with EPS foam have not been able to sustainably absorb the force at the moment of impact, significantly increasing the risk of concussion.

By minimizing the traditional heat-trapping EPS foam, WaveCel technology also provides better airflow perpendicular to the helmet, especially around the forehead and temples, which are the most noticeable cooling zones while riding. In addition, hot air is even extracted.

All WaveCel helmets have been awarded the highest rating by the independent testing facility Virginia Tech. This objective testing proves that Bontrager's helmets offer cyclists the best protection with their 5-star rating. WaveCel is the first ever advanced helmet technology to receive funding from the US National Institutes of Health.
