On foot through Munich: the most beautiful walks in the state capital.
With the Oktoberfest, impressive buildings and interesting museums, Munich attracts thousands of visitors every year. But also those who prefer to walk on quiet paths in the countryside instead of on busy shopping miles will be happy in the metropolis on the Isar. Parks and gardens, lakes, castles and beer gardens invite tourists and locals to explore the city and the surrounding area on relaxed hikes. Some of the most beautiful tours are presented in the new hiking guide "Munich and Surroundings" from Conrad Stein Verlag.
"Out into the City" and "Into the Countryside" are the names of the two chapters in which authors Kathrin Braunwarth and Nora Kamprath have compiled the varied tours in Munich's U-Bahn and S-Bahn areas. From the "child-friendly tour for explorers" to the hike "for nature lovers and connoisseurs of Bavarian beer," there is something for every taste. Among other things, there are walks through Munich's Old Town and the English Garden, hikes at Lake Starnberg and in the Mangfall Valley, and tours along the Isar, Würm and Amper rivers. For each hike, a short info block summarizes all the important information about time requirements, rest stops, train connections and places to stop for refreshments. If you need to cool off on a warm day, you can find out where there are beer gardens and swimming spots. In addition, there are helpful tips for hikers traveling with children, buggies or dogs - for example, you can find out which paths are particularly exciting for children or where the ground is paw-friendly. For orientation, detailed maps and GPS tracks for each tour, which can be downloaded free of charge, help in addition to the exact route descriptions.
The authors: Munich-based authors and friends Kathrin Braunwarth and Nora Kamprath are nature-loving city dwellers. They undertook numerous joint hikes to various destinations around the globe. In the process, they came up with the idea of describing the charms of their hometown of Munich and its immediate surroundings in day trips. Here they discovered many sights worth seeing, exciting, bizarre and culinary.
